Shahd Attar (Saudi Arabia ’17) is an advocate for women’s empowerment and career success in Saudi Arabia. As the co-founder of CellA—“Connection” in Arabic—Attar saw a need to systematically support the thousands of women with career aspirations who were entering the workforce in a segregated culture. Since the organization’s founding, CellA has reached more than 5,000 women in three different Saudi Arabian cities.
EF Fellows Farzana Yaqoob (Pakistan ’16) and Miriam Meckel (Germany ’08) spoke at the 2017 Women’s Leadership Forum conference in Boston, each telling “HerStory.” The Women’s Leadership Forum is dedicated to recognizing and honoring inspirational individuals for their leadership qualities and accomplishments. THE CASE FOR WOMEN ON BOARDS WEBINAR
On April 27th, 2016 EF discussed issues surrounding women on corporate and NGO boards, the indisputable need for women at the executive level of these companies, and strategies to increase their presence. The webinar was presented as a follow-up to a successful session during the Women’s Leadership Forum in Miami 2015, this webinar was open to all and you can view it here.
In honor of International Women’s Day on March 8th and our commitment to women’s leadership, we launched our own page by on the Huffington Post, a leading global media company with more than 200 million unique visitors per month, according to analytics company, ComScore, and one of the U.S.’s top online destinations for news, featuring EF Women’s voices. With four riveting posts from women Fellows writing on the artisan sector (Sasibai Kimis, Malaysia ’15), women’s strides in Saudi Arabia (Noor Shabib ’15), technology transfer in Spain (Ana José Varela-González ’15) and political empowerment in Zimbabwe (Kuda Chitsike ’15), we will continue to develop this page and draw from the EF network’s tremendous thought leadership on a vast range of issues.
MAKING STRIDES: ADVANCING WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP
Global Networks Forum Making Strides: Advancing Women’s Leadership, was hosted by Eisenhower Fellowships in affiliation with four premier global fellowship programs. The conference featured 58 speakers from 25 countries. Six thematic panels held in November 2015 focused on: the business and social case for gender parity and female leadership; social impact investments; micro- enterprises and entrepreneurship; the portrayal of women in media and the arts; education and health challenges; and leadership strategies for equity and inclusion. The event was kicked off with a keynote speech by Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women. See photos from the event here.
EF WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
Eisenhower Fellows from government, private sector, and non-profit arenas around the globe gathered for an intensive two and a half days to address leadership challenges for women. The primary goal of the conference was to strengthen global and regional ties among female Fellows and to use the EF network to support women in their professional activities, careers and personal development. The event also served to initiate an active, ongoing community of female Fellows through the creation of strategic networks, collaborative events, & developed partnerships.
